Getting ready for Writing

In this morning's child led activities, these two year olds are using school glue and foam shapes.
This activity helps to increase hand strength and eye hand coordination. They are also planning and organizing where the shapes will be used. Since the glue stays wet, they are able to "revise" their work by moving shapes to new places so that their ideas are accurately reflected.

We are also working on social skills and language. Using two different size bottles of glue encourages turn taking in addition to a slightly difference sensory experience; one bottle is harder to squeeze than the other.
Z, age 2, "Angel"

We talked about what was in their creations. Z had "angels" that she saw on a show and went on to describe what they were doing. J spelled her name, then named all of the shapes used.
